According to Croteam, the story of the philosophical puzzle game The Talos Principle was originally conceived as a complete trilogy, not an endless franchise.
Series writer Jonas Kyratzes said that the team never considered The Talos Principle as a project that should continue "again and again". Instead, the developers wanted to create a cohesive work with a beginning, development, and a complete ending.
At the same time, Kyratzes noted that small spin-offs are possible in the future, but the main storyline will conclude with the third game.
According to the writer, the modern industry too often leaves stories unfinished: series stretch for years and then suddenly end due to studio closures or changes in publisher plans. In the case of The Talos Principle, the team wants to avoid such a scenario and bring the story to a logical conclusion.
