"Saw this - refused to buy": Forza Horizon 6 still offended some Japanese gamers - protection of sakura and temples was not enough
For some, driving through rice fields was "the last straw."
The events of the racing game Forza Horizon 6 take place in Japan, and Playground Games clearly took Ubisoft's experience into account. Previously, the company introduced Assassin's Creed Shadows in a Japanese setting and was criticized for incorrect portrayal of various elements of the country's culture and daily life, and for the ability to destroy shrines in the game.
The creators of Forza Horizon 6 made it so that players can destroy various trees, but sakura cannot be broken. In addition, some temples, shrines, and other culturally significant objects were also protected.
Nevertheless, attentive Japanese users found an element that offends the feelings of some Japanese people. denfaminicogame shared on social media about the reaction to cars driving through rice fields:
In Forza Horizon 6, cars "invade" rice fields, which causes semi-joking concern among foreign users. They race through everything as if it were a normal road. Comments appear like "What's happening in FH6 is a nightmare for locals" and "I'm really sorry about this." Moreover, there's even a race that goes right through the rice fields.
However, not everyone finds a reason for fun here. For people like Varna_Vtuber, such an attitude towards farmers' labor is unacceptable:
Seeing this, I decided not to buy Forza Horizon 6. It feels like an insult to [Japanese] farmers – such treatment of rice fields. You might think it's an overreaction, but I really felt offended. If it doesn't bother you, buy it and have fun.
So far, the situation has been limited to discontent on social media – Forza Horizon 6 receives "very positive" reviews on Steam, including in Japanese, meaning there has been no "review bombing."
