A "chess" soulslike has been released on Steam - about a pawn transforming into other pieces
The main character in Stonemachia faces many dangers.
In late May, Crossfall Games studio released the game Stonemachia on PC via Steam. Players are invited to take on the role of Zephyr – a pawn with the ability to transform into other chess pieces.
The hero faces a "Dantean journey" through a world devastated by the Plague of Angels:
Explore dark and forgotten lands where you will face armies of angels – animated statues and objects inspired by Italian art and folklore! Discover all armor transformations and their unique abilities in a dark adventure game where a shield can be a decisive factor in any battle.
In terms of gameplay, Stonemachia resembles games from the Dark Souls franchise. Players will have to uncover the mystery of the chess pieces and "guide the hero through Medhelan on an epic journey to return him to Heaven."
The Stonemachia page on Steam is available here. A few years ago, the studio released a demo version, which received "very positive" reviews from players.
