Bungie continues to reveal details about new content for Marathon. Next week, a night version of the Dread Marsh location — Night Marsh — will appear in the game, making the gameplay noticeably more intense and grim. The developers explicitly state that they were inspired by horror and wanted to turn the mode into a kind of horror game.

The map will be noticeably slower-paced compared to the daytime version of the map. The number of players on the location will be reduced, and the main threat will be darkness and additional environmental hazards. Limited visibility will be a key element of the mode, so Bungie has prepared several new tools for survival.

Players will be able to use special Vector ammunition that creates light sources upon impact and highlights enemies, as well as Vector grenades to detect nearby threats. Additionally, scopes will appear that briefly illuminate the surroundings while aiming. If the situation becomes critical, signal flares will help, illuminating the sky, although they simultaneously reveal the player's location to other match participants.

Changes will also affect the OKSZ security system. Now, to activate evacuation and access network towers, special certificates will have to be obtained by destroying bots. They will allow hacking systems and obtaining valuable loot, but the developers warn: greed can easily lead to death.
