Activision and Infinity Ward have officially unveiled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The new installment in the famous series will be released on October 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. For the first time in the modern lineup, the game will completely abandon support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, focusing exclusively on the current generation of platforms.

The announcement took place during a special Activision broadcast, where the developers discussed the key features of the project. The campaign events will unfold on the Korean Peninsula. According to the plot, a new supreme leader of North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of South Korea, leading to a rapidly escalating international conflict.

The main character will be a young South Korean soldier named Park, who will go from an inexperienced fighter to one of the key participants in the war. Captain Price will also return to the campaign, operating outside the system and separately from Special Task Force 141. The developers promise a large-scale story with political intrigues, covert operations, and a global crisis that will affect different parts of the world. Announced locations include New York, Paris, and Mumbai.

Infinity Ward calls Modern Warfare 4 "a new technical benchmark" for the series. The game is being created exclusively for modern hardware and will feature a significantly redesigned shooting system. One of the main innovations will be Ballistic Authority technology, which combines weapon physics, animations, sound, sight, and visibility system into a single complex. The authors claim that this will make gunfights as realistic and predictable as possible — without random spread and unclear hit registration.

In addition, the game will feature new parkour elements and updated hip-fire. For multiplayer, 12 standard 6v6 maps will be prepared at launch, separate arenas for Gunfight mode, large-scale maps with vehicles and infantry battles, and a new Kill Block mode. The latter will offer dynamically changing battlefields with hundreds of variations of routes, cover, and lines of sight.

The developers also introduced the Gunny system, which will allow players to quickly assemble effective weapon builds based on their preferences and unlocked modifications. The prestige system will be divided into two options: classic prestige with a full progression reset for accelerated experience gain and exclusive rewards, and a standard progression path without resetting.
