Infinity Ward has confirmed that the story campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be entirely single-player. This information was confirmed by an Activision representative in a comment to Digital Foundry.

This news will surely delight players who, after the announcement of Modern Warfare 4, were primarily interested in the story mode, especially given the mixed reception of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The cooperative campaign of the latter received severe criticism both for the quality of its missions and script, and for technical issues.

One of the main complaints about Black Ops 7 was the lack of a proper checkpoint system. If one of the players lost connection during a cooperative mission, the entire operation had to be restarted. Additional dissatisfaction was caused by the inability to pause the game even when playing solo.

Against this backdrop, Infinity Ward's decision to abandon the cooperative campaign appears to be an attempt to focus on a more traditional single-player experience. Although the quality of the script and production of Modern Warfare 4 remains to be seen, fans of the series have already positively received the news of a return to the classic campaign format.

Earlier, Activision also unveiled the debut trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and revealed new details about the game. The shooter is expected to be released on October 23.
