Lionsgate has announced the premiere date for the action film "John Rambo," which will serve as a prequel to the cult franchise. The film will tell the origin story of the legendary character and show his service as a "Green Beret" in the impenetrable tropical forests of Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. The film will be released worldwide on June 4, 2027.
Noah Centineo, known for the series "The Recruit," will play the young John Rambo, while David Harbour, star of "Stranger Things," will portray Sam Trautman. The cast also includes Yao ("Sinners"), Jason Tobin ("Warrior"), Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White ("Yellowstone"), and Tayme Thapthimthong ("The White Lotus"). Additionally, James Franco has been cast in one of the roles, making this his first major Hollywood project in several years.
The film is directed by Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander, who gained international recognition for the "Sisu" film series. The screenplay was written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, who worked on "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam."
Anthony and Joe Russo, as well as Sylvester Stallone himself, serve as executive producers. Principal photography took place on location in Thailand and concluded in March of this year.
