Mina the Hollower sold 55,000 copies on Steam in 12 hours - developers reveal game's budget

Yacht Club Games co-founder David D'Angelo shared the initial successes of the retro-adventure Mina the Hollower in an interview with Bloomberg. According to him, in just twelve hours after its PC release, the game sold approximately 55,000 copies on Steam alone. Developers have not yet received sales data for consoles.

For comparison, the studio's previous hit, Shovel Knight, sold 75,000 copies in its debut week, with this figure summing up sales across three platforms: PC, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS.

The team cannot fully celebrate yet. It was previously revealed that due to endless postponements, Yacht Club closed its office, moved the remaining 15 employees to remote work, burned through almost all its capital, and postponed the full 3D sequel to Shovel Knight. The production budget for Mina the Hollower grew to $5 million, making it the most expensive project in the company's history.

If Mina the Hollower had failed, the creators would have had to seek external investors or sell to a large publisher, effectively saying goodbye to their independence. Game director and Yacht Club co-founder Sean Velasco is categorical:

The authors believe this goal is achievable. For mass appeal, they deliberately set a modest price of $20 so that the cost would not cause unnecessary doubts before purchase.

Mina the Hollower was released on May 29, 2026, on PC via Steam, GOG, and Humble Store, as well as on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. The project received a score of 92 on Metacritic, making it one of the highest-rated releases of the year, and on Steam, it currently has 84% positive reviews.
