Recently, the developers of the truck driver simulators Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator presented a new dev diary dedicated to the upcoming update 1.60. They reviewed feedback and decided to make changes to the fatigue and rest (sleep) mechanics.
In the current version, players can only use predefined rest options, which many disliked. The players were heard — with update 1.60, sleep customization will appear:
The new feature will give players more control over rest periods, allowing them to choose how long to sleep and when exactly to wake up.
The "rest status" indicator (the "bed" icon) will gradually decrease during a long trip; it recovers after sleep. Players will receive a warning when the indicator level becomes critically low, and upon complete exhaustion, episodes of microsleep will begin to occur.
The mandatory break system (marked with the letter "P") will now work more strictly: players will receive a notification two hours before needing to take a break, as well as a warning if they exceed the permissible driving time — if they continue driving, the driver will receive a penalty for the violation.
The driving time limit will be affected by the region:
In American Truck Simulator, drivers can be behind the wheel for up to 14 hours, after which they must take a break — 10 hours of continuous rest will be required. In Euro Truck Simulator 2, you can drive for up to 10 hours, after which a break with 9 hours of continuous rest is necessary.
Previously, SCS Software studio already revealed some planned changes from update 1.6.
