Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to Feature Parkour - Infinity Ward Discusses Multiplayer Philosophy
Developers continue to reveal details about the new Call of Duty installment.
Infinity Ward has released a new developer diary, From the Ward, dedicated to the multiplayer mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. After criticism of MW2 for its slow gameplay, the developers have changed course and are now creating the "best arcade shooter" in the sub-series' history, based on the concept of unrestricted movement.
The emphasis is on parkour and fluid controls. Players will be able to seamlessly combine mantling with slides, drop to prone from a slide, climb pipes, and jump across rooftops, using vehicles as support.
The system should be understandable for newcomers but offer a high skill ceiling for pros. All of this is part of a broader philosophy where "skilled" shooters and "smart" tacticians should have equal chances of winning.
The main feature will be the Kill Block multiplayer map builder, consisting of three massive plates. These are randomly combined during match loading. Currently, the engine creates about a hundred layout variations, and by release, the developers plan to expand the pool to 500 combinations so that the level geometry remains unpredictable even after dozens of hours of gameplay.
