Euro Truck Simulator 2 and ATS to Get Improved Materials - First Look at Cabins from Update 1.60

In late May, the creators of the long-haul truck driver simulators Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator published a new dev diary dedicated to the creation of update 1.60. They decided to introduce an improved material system.

According to the developers, it will significantly enhance the quality of lighting and the visual component of truck interiors. The main goal of the system is to improve how materials in the cabin react to light, which will make the cabins brighter and look better.

The current version of the system often made the cabin interior too dark and "flat," especially in scenes without direct lighting. Thanks to the update, the differences between materials such as leather, fabric, plastic, and metal will become much more noticeable even in low light.

The developers of ETS 2 and ATS explained that the new technology will use several variants of dynamic cubemaps – thanks to this, materials will react more naturally to diffuse light and reflect the environment:

SCS clarified that the system was developed from the outset with truck interiors in both games in mind, so the base versions of the games and their current vehicle fleet will also gradually receive these improvements, and attention was also paid to optimization issues:

The release date for updates 1.60 for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator has not yet been announced. Earlier, SCS Software studio already revealed some planned changes – they will affect the interface and some game mechanics. The "radio" function will be significantly expanded.
