Capcom will have a very hard time selling Onimusha: Way of the Sword to players in September - rumor
The project faces tough competition.
After the confirmation of Grand Theft Auto 6's release date on November 19, 2026, major publishers are trying to release their projects before Rockstar Games' new hit. As a result, September of next year risks becoming one of the busiest gaming months in recent years, and one of the games that could find itself in the center of this competition is Onimusha: Way of the Sword from Capcom.
According to insider Intercelluar, who previously provided reliable leaks, including materials on Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced and the not-yet-officially-announced Rayman Legends Retold, the new Onimusha installment is allegedly set to be released on September 25, 2026. However, the source itself notes that this information may be outdated.
Additional confirmation of a September release window came from well-known insider NateDrake. On the ResetERA forum, he stated that he had heard about plans to release the game specifically in September, although the exact date is unknown to him. According to him, the end of the month seems like a logical time for the project's launch, even if the September 25 date turns out to be incorrect.
For example, it is already known that Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled for release on September 9, and Marvel's Wolverine on September 15. In addition, according to rumors, the release of Gears of War: E-Day is also targeted for September. Against the backdrop of such a tight launch schedule, even the long-awaited return of the Onimusha series risks finding itself in an extremely competitive environment.
Capcom has not yet announced the official release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, so all information about a September release should be considered unofficial.
