
Horror film "Backrooms of Reality" earns $118 million in its opening weekend, setting a record for A24 studio
However, the project's international release has not yet fully started. The film adaptation of Backrooms will only reach Russian cinemas on June 4.
The film "Backrooms of Reality" has become one of the biggest box office surprises of the year. With a budget of $10 million, Kane Parsons' film earned $118 million worldwide in its opening weekend, including $81.4 million in North America. This is the best debut in A24's history. In addition, 20-year-old Parsons became the youngest director in history whose film debuted at the top of the box office with such large earnings.
The plot follows Clark, an unlucky furniture salesman, who discovers a hidden portal to another dimension right in the basement of his own store. The hero finds himself in an endless labyrinth of yellow corridors, where the usual laws of space and time cease to work, and something terrifying can be hidden around every corner.
Chiwetel Ejiofor played the main role. Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, and Avan Jogia also starred in the film. Kane Parsons directed.
The international premiere of "Backrooms of Reality" took place on May 29, and the film will be released in Russia on June 4.
