Former Forza Horizon Creative Director Unveils Racing Action Game Clutch
Maverick Games employs specialists with many years of experience in creating racing games.
Independent studio Maverick Games, founded by former Forza Horizon creative director Mike Brown, officially unveiled its debut project — the open-world racing action game Clutch. The game will be released in spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
According to Mike Brown, the team has gathered specialists with many years of experience in creating the biggest open-world racing games. The developers intend not just to release another racing game, but to offer a new perspective on the genre through unusual sandbox mechanics and a large-scale evolution of familiar elements of automotive games.
The plot of Clutch will play a key role in the gameplay. The story will tell of a brother and sister who participate in the prestigious R1K championship — a legendary series of competitions with a century of history. However, behind the glamour of professional racing lies the underground community Midnight Collective, uniting speed enthusiasts, spectacular races, and risky chases. After a series of events, the main character finds himself drawn into the dark side of the motorsport world, where the stakes are much higher than just winning on the track.
The developers promise a vibrant open world combining PvP and PvE elements. Players will participate in official competitions, complete story and random quests, evade pursuit, confront rival factions, and build their own reputation. The studio claims that many missions will encourage unconventional approaches and creative use of the open world's possibilities.
The first full reveal of Clutch, including details of the plot, characters, cast, and a demonstration of the game world, will take place on June 5, as part of Summer Game Fest 2026.
