In an interview with Polygon, Amazon Gaming General Manager Jeff Gattis said that the situation with the game rights turned out to be unusual. Although Amazon gained control of the James Bond franchise after acquiring MGM in 2025, the agreement with IO Interactive was concluded before that. Thanks to the existing contract, the studio was able to self-publish 007 First Light.

According to Gattis, future games in the series will be released under the control of MGM and, theoretically, Amazon Games. This means that IO Interactive's participation in the future of the franchise is not guaranteed.

Amazon views games as part of a broader strategy to develop its intellectual properties across multiple media formats. The company is betting on close integration of film, television, and video games. As an example, Gattis mentioned the upcoming Tomb Raider series for Prime Video, which will be linked to the game line of the franchise.
