Nintendo officially confirmed a new version of Nintendo Switch 2. Console development is underway
Nintendo confirmed the development of a new version of Switch 2 for the European market. The changes are related to new EU regulations that will oblige electronics manufacturers to simplify battery replacement.
Earlier, reports appeared online about the preparation of an updated Nintendo Switch 2 model. Now the company has officially confirmed that it is working on such a version of the console.
On its website, Nintendo announced that it is preparing devices that comply with new EU requirements, which will come into force on February 18, 2027. According to the regulation, many electronic devices, including portable gaming systems, must provide users with a relatively simple battery replacement.
The company has not yet disclosed what changes the Switch 2 will receive. Currently, battery replacement requires disassembling the device in several stages. The new version should significantly simplify access to the battery, but it is unknown whether this will be a full-fledged console revision or just a minor technical update.
It is also unclear whether the updated model will be released outside of Europe. Currently, Nintendo is only talking about a version necessary to comply with EU requirements.
This is not about Nintendo Switch 2 OLED or Nintendo Switch 2 Lite. So far, only a modification of the console has been confirmed, which will be easier to maintain and repair.
