Following the presentation of God of War: Laufey at the June PlayStation State of Play 2026, Sony Santa Monica studio officially confirmed: the God of War franchise is not saying goodbye to Kratos.
In an interview after the Laufey announcement, Santa Monica Studio head Cory Barlog emphasized that the developers intend to develop other storylines, but this does not mean the end of the God of War's story.
Faye is a different character, but she is still part of the larger tapestry of the story we want to explore. However, games featuring Kratos will be released throughout the franchise's history.
God of War Laufey will be a spin-off dedicated to Faye — Kratos' wife. The plot will focus on her fate after her death at the beginning of Ragnarok's events. According to the story, Faye travels to the afterlife of the gods, where she will meet representatives of various pantheons.
