During a recent State of Play presentation, Moon Studios, known for the Ori series, announced that the action RPG No Rest for the Wicked will leave early access in October 2026 and simultaneously debut on PlayStation 5. However, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 are absent from the announced platforms.
After the announcement, players began to inquire about the reasons for this decision. Thomas Mahler, head of Moon Studios and creative director of the project, explained the situation on the game's official Discord server. According to him, the main problem for the Xbox release was Microsoft's junior console — the Xbox Series S.
The Series S makes things much harder. We will release the game later when we can properly optimize it for Switch 2 and Xbox,
During the discussion, one user joked that after such extensive optimization, the game would be close to a mobile release. To this, the developer replied that "the characteristics of the Series S and modern mobile devices are no longer so different from each other".
Problems associated with the Xbox Series S have been discussed in the industry for several years. After the launch of the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, Microsoft required all games to run on both systems. Many developers noted that the less powerful version of the console often becomes a limiting factor.
