Netflix has officially confirmed the production of the third season of the animated series Devil May Cry. The new chapter will be the last and will conclude Dante's story, which showrunner Adi Shankar had conceived as a trilogy from the very beginning.
Along with the announcement, a message from Shankar was published, in which he explained the structure of the entire project. According to the author, the episode titles from the very beginning hinted at inspiration from Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy". The first season corresponded to "Inferno", the second represented "Purgatorio", and the third will be "Paradiso" - together they form a single saga called the Force Edge Saga (a reference to Sparda's sword):
"For those of you who have been paying close attention to the episode titles: I've been showing you the structure of the project all along. It was always Dante's "Divine Comedy", but with guns and a red coat. From the very beginning, the project was conceived as a film trilogy disguised as a series."
The exact release date for the final chapter has not yet been announced.
