It was previously reported that Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios canceled a new "Stargate" series from showrunner Martin Gero during pre-production. According to media reports, studio management considered the concept "too niche" and primarily aimed at the old fanbase.

Now, actor Michael Shanks, who played Dr. Daniel Jackson in the series "Stargate: SG-1," has called on the fan community to get Amazon to reconsider its decision. He publicly supported producer Joseph Mallozzi, who refuted rumors about the reason for the cancellation and stated that the script was written for a broad audience from the very beginning, but with careful attention to canon.

In addition, Shanks launched a large-scale campaign on social media and asked for support for the petition Revive the Stargate Franchise, which has already gathered almost 42 thousand signatures. The actor emphasized that the canceled project was the last chance to see the return of the original team:

"Simply put: if you are interested in a 'Stargate' series involving at least some of the original creators or actors – now is the time to make your voice heard. Otherwise, this chapter will be closed forever. Let them know you are HERE."

In addition to the petition, Shanks urged fans to storm social media and Amazon's customer service. In response, users began massively canceling their Prime Video subscriptions and launched a fundraiser for a protest banner with the hashtag #SaveStargate, which they plan to fly over the studio's headquarters.

At the time of writing, official representatives of Amazon MGM Studios have not commented on the situation.
