The recent announcement of God of War Laufey caused a wave of outrage online. Some users are unhappy that the new Santa Monica Studio game will feature Kratos's wife, Laufey (Faye), as the main character, instead of Kratos. After her death, the heroine found herself in a "strange place" and learned that the protection she had prepared for Kratos and Atreus was now under threat.

Mike Ybarra, former president of Blizzard Entertainment, decided to share his opinion on the new installment of the God of War franchise on social media:

Something about the new God of War makes me doubt. Strange move for this franchise. Time will tell, but my first impressions from the announcement trailer align with David Jaffe (creator of God of War). I found myself not understanding what I was watching at all... I hope I'm wrong. I love this franchise.

Earlier, Jaffe expressed himself in his usual manner, stating that God of War Laufey reminded him of Forspoken.

One participant in the discussion asked: "Mike, is this reaction because of the focus on Faye? This game already looks better than the other parts."

Ybarra replied:

Generally, people want to play as the main character of the franchise. The studio's task is to build a strong emotional connection between the character and the player. In this case, it's Kratos. Remember how in Halo 5, Locke was in 12 out of 15 missions — same situation. It didn't resonate with people. They want to play as Master Chief and feel his power.
