Didn't take off: after 12 years, a chess simulator is being removed from Steam - the developer is unhappy with low sales
The developer does not consider further support for the game to be expedient.
Ludeme Games and Sirlin Games recently reminded players about Chess 2: The Sequel. This chess simulator was released in late summer 2014, and in May of this year, the complete closure of the project was announced.
According to the developer, this is due to low game sales. They "were never sufficient" to financially justify supporting Chess 2: The Sequel servers or covering development costs. The servers have long been down and cannot be restored. In this regard, it was decided to stop further distribution in the Steam store:
Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to restart the servers, as some important files have been lost. To prevent anyone from buying a game with non-functional servers, I decided to permanently remove it from the store. Thank you to everyone who played and enjoyed the game.
Chess 2: The Sequel was positioned as "the next stage in the evolution of chess, tuned for more diverse variations, strategic depth, and years of expert-level play." Players were offered several chess variants: not only "classic" but also the ability to play with two warrior kings with additional moves and alternative versions of other pieces with different attacks and features.
