Sony took its Decima engine from Kojima Productions - Media
Hideo Kojima's studio has completely lost access to Sony's technologies, which could seriously affect the development of Physint.
After Sony Interactive Entertainment withdrew from participation in the development of Physint, Kojima Productions may face another serious problem – the studio will likely no longer be able to use the Decima game engine, on which both parts of Death Stranding were created.
It is reported that Decima was also used in motion capture work for Physint.
Decima holds special significance for Kojima Productions. Back in 2017, Hideo Kojima himself told PlayStation Blog that Guerrilla Games provided his team with the engine's source code. After that, specialists from both studios jointly developed the technology, working with a single codebase. It was on a modified version of Decima that Death Stranding was created, and later Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
Moreover, Kojima Productions' dependence on Decima was not a formality. In February 2026, the studio's CTO Akio Sakamoto explained in detail in an interview with AUTOMATON why the team continues to use the engine for almost ten years.
If the Forbes information is confirmed, Kojima Productions will have to completely port Physint to a new engine, which will significantly increase the project's budget and development time.
