The developers of acclaimed horror games will present a dark story of Ro Laren.

Polish Bloober Team, known to many players for Layers of Fear, Observer, and the Silent Hill 2 remake, has announced a new project based on the Star Trek franchise.

On the Star Trek: Shadow Frontier store page, the game is positioned as an action-adventure:

This is a mature, story-driven, third-person action-adventure set in the vast Star Trek universe. After crashing on a distant planet overrun by a strange consciousness, Ro Laren must survive in a world that is both captivating and deadly.

Michał Gembicki, Head of Publishing at Bloober Team, and Shawn Kittelsen, Head of Creative and Production at Paramount Games Studio, participated in IGN Live. During the event, Shawn said he would describe the game's genre as a “psychological thriller”:

If you like truly immersive survival adventures, this game is for you. If you are a Star Trek fan and want to delve deeper into the stories of characters like Ro Laren, this game is for you.

Gembicki noted that Bloober Team loves dark stories and added that in Shadow Frontier, “the combination of horror and dark narrative with such an amazing universe as Star Trek will be excellent.” Kittelsen emphasizes that there has never been such a project in the Star Trek franchise.

The managers have not yet specified the timeline of events within the Star Trek chronology, but Kittelsen noted: “The game's story will delve deeply into Ro Laren's history and her internal conflicts, really bringing them to the surface. This is where that darkness comes from.” Gembicki, in turn, added that there will be “a lot of work with her 'skeletons in the closet' and exploring the consequences of decisions she made in the past.”
