According to Michael Sarnoski ("Pig", "A Quiet Place: Day One"), work on the Death Stranding movie script is nearing completion. The team is actively polishing the text:

"I'm writing the script right now, and I hope I'm close to finishing it. I'm in constant communication with Hideo Kojima and the A24 representatives. They've read the draft, and now we're working together on the revisions. They are all very excited and pleased with the result."

Sarnoski emphasized that Kojima gave him complete creative freedom, allowing him to tell an independent story. The film will focus on new characters and explore an uncharted corner of the post-apocalyptic world, but will remain faithful to the source material. The director compared this experience to his work on the "A Quiet Place" franchise, where he also managed to touch on personal themes within someone else's universe. At the same time, Sarnoski added that fans should expect surprises:

"Perhaps some characters from the game will flash through the film. But this is definitely a story that could well take place parallel to its events — it respects the game's canon, but at the same time remains a deeply independent work."

The director separately noted Hideo Kojima's deep knowledge of cinema, as Kojima is producing the adaptation. During the script analysis, the Japanese game designer instantly recognized all the hidden cinematic homages:

"I was struck by the fact that when he read the script, I didn't even have to explain anything — he recognized every movie reference. Kojima immediately said: 'Oh, you have a reference to the film 'Come and See' here! I see it. I like it.' He is incredibly knowledgeable about cinema. It was great to watch."

The start dates for filming and the release date of the Death Stranding movie have not yet been disclosed.
