The community is trying to bring back a storyline that the developers abandoned.

In June, modders announced the release of the demo version of The WAR Project – Demo modification for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Enthusiasts are working on restoring story content that CD Projekt RED did not include in the final version of the game:

From 2013 to 2014, CD Projekt RED worked on a large quest chain for The Witcher 3, which was internally called simply “WAR”. The events of this quest line were dedicated to Geralt's participation in joint actions with Roche and his partisans to eliminate the Nilfgaardian medic named Hector Kraft-Ebbing. It also featured characters such as Thaler and Ves, as well as Iorveth and Vincent Meis.

Fragments of the canceled content remained in The Witcher 3. Modders were able to study it and began to restore it. In this demo, they offer players to evaluate several quests. Work on restoring the content continues.

The modification “The WAR Project – Demo” (The WAR Project Team/MerseyRockoff) is distributed free of charge via Nexus Mods. The final version of the modification is planned to be released in 2027, with an estimated playthrough time of 10 hours.

CD Projekt RED recently announced a new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It will be called Songs of the Past. It is being created in collaboration with Fool's Theory studio. The release is scheduled for next year.
