Final Fantasy Resonance Announced for Switch and Switch 2
Final Fantasy Resonance, a new installment in Square Enix's RPG series, was officially unveiled at Nintendo Direct. The game will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on October 22, 2026.
The developers describe the project as an attempt to answer the question of what a classic Final Fantasy would look like if pixel graphics continued to evolve over decades. Resonance will be the first game in the series to be fully rendered in HD-2D style, which combines detailed pixels with modern visual effects and a dynamic camera.
The combat system will remain turn-based but will incorporate modern elements. One of the key new features will be the ability to summon legendary heroes from the series' history as "visions" that assist in battles.
The first trailer showcased nostalgic locations, spectacular battles, and a visual style inspired by the success of Octopath Traveler and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake.
