Stellar Blade creators don't want an "arms race" - the game will run even on weak hardware
Shift Up stated that it does not intend to participate in the "arms race" in the gaming industry. According to the developers, Stellar Blade: Blood Rain will run even on relatively weak computers and will not require top-tier hardware.
Studio head and game director Hyung-Tae Kim noted in an interview that the modern PC and console market faces challenges due to rising prices and the impact of AI on hardware production. According to him, AI data centers consume a huge number of processors and video cards, which directly affects the cost of components for ordinary users.
I believe there is a limit to progress related to price, for both PCs and consoles.
The studio emphasizes that they will not rely on players massively upgrading to more powerful hardware in a few years. Instead, the priority will be stable game performance on the current generation of devices.
At the same time, the developers are not abandoning technological development. They will increase world detail, improve city design, and environmental density without increasing system requirements.
According to Kim, this approach will allow for a more impressive game without a sharp increase in hardware requirements. He reminded that the first Stellar Blade was already well-optimized: even the minimum requirements included affordable video cards like the GTX 1060 and Radeon RX 580.
The release of Stellar Blade: Blood Rain is expected no earlier than 2028, and by then the market situation may change significantly.
