During the press tour for the animated series Among Us from Paramount+, where Elijah Wood voiced one of the characters, the actor spoke about returning to the role of Frodo Baggins in the film "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum".

According to the actor, last year he flew to New Zealand for test runs, where he put on his character's costume and wig again for the first time in a long time.

"There was a muscle memory that kicked in from being in that environment, with those people, in that costume and wig. It felt like it's woven into my DNA at a cellular memory level. I'll probably have to rewatch the first film just to get back into that mood again."

However, Wood's role in the film will be relatively small. The actor spoke about this in another interview:

"My role is relatively small, but I'm just happy to be back and spend time in New Zealand to see old friends."

The plot of "The Hunt for Gollum" will unfold between the events of "The Hobbit" and the first part of the original trilogy. The story will center on Gandalf and Aragorn, who will try to outwit Sauron and find Gollum.

Andy Serkis is directing the project and will also return as Gollum. Sir Ian McKellen will reprise his role as Gandalf, and Jamie Dornan will play Aragorn. Other participants in the project include Leo Woodall and Kate Winslet. Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, who worked on the original trilogy, are responsible for the screenplay, and Peter Jackson is producing.

The worldwide premiere of "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" is scheduled for December 17, 2027.
