Xbox revised plans: PS5 game releases canceled at final development stage - Media
Xbox head Asha Sharma may have changed the company's strategy in a way that damaged relations with PlayStation.
According to journalist Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, several Xbox projects, including Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution, were initially being prepared for PS5, but plans were later abruptly revised. This came as a surprise even within Xbox itself.
According to Schreier, Gears of War: E-Day was developed with a PlayStation release in mind. The PS5 version was in active development, and its launch was considered a realistic scenario.
Retailers were already preparing to start pre-orders for the PS5 version, but after the change in strategy, the project lost its platform. Inside Xbox, according to sources, the decision also caused surprise.
The changes also affected Halo: Campaign Evolved. Earlier reports indicated that the game's trailer was planned to be shown at PlayStation State of Play, but it was ultimately pulled from the showing. Schreier confirmed this information.
According to sources, Asha Sharma and her team withdrew the material, which, according to insiders, could have worsened relations between the companies.
However, it is too early to talk about a full-fledged "console war," but Xbox is noticeably changing course. While the company previously actively promoted multi-platform releases, more and more decisions now point to strengthening the exclusivity of key projects.
