The developers have reworked the combat and added RTS-like mechanics.

In June, the creators of the space simulator X4: Foundations introduced an update called "Empires 9.00". It includes new features and various improvements.

For example, the developers prepared the "largest balance update" for battles in X4's history — they rebalanced hundreds of types of turrets, weapons, shields, and ships. In addition, turrets are now more accurate, AI pilots behave more naturally, and the movement of large ships has been reworked.

The developers explained that the changes to the visual style of the interface affected all areas of the game: "These adjustments to the layout and style of the map screen are aimed at improving readability while maintaining the overall information structure."

The design of NPC stations has been improved, a ship showroom module has appeared, and "priority orders" have been introduced — this interface function will allow players to instantly issue real-time commands (in the spirit of RTS games) that immediately override all other orders. According to the developers, this improves dynamics in fast-paced strategic situations, eliminating the need to adjust order lists and allowing ships to act immediately.

In addition, the authors of X4: Foundations said that they changed the resource extraction zone management system to improve performance and memory efficiency, give developers more control over resource allocation, and make the extraction process more dynamic and interesting for players:

Resources are now localized rather than distributed throughout the area. In addition, when one resource zone is depleted, new resources may appear at another point in the same region. This creates new dynamics around mining operations, where resource zones must first be discovered before they can be used.
