Microsoft intends to restore the value of console exclusivity for Xbox and has already set a minimum release schedule for such projects. According to Xbox head Asha Sharma, the company plans to release at least one exclusive game for Xbox consoles annually.
The new program is part of a large-scale reboot of the Xbox brand, aimed at increasing interest in its own gaming systems. Sharma noted that this is just the beginning of a long-term initiative, and new exclusives await players in the future. However, the pace of game releases may depend on internal changes within the company, including anticipated staff reductions.
Matthew Ball, the new Director of Strategy for Microsoft's gaming division, also spoke about the importance of exclusives. According to him, the company intends to provide Xbox owners with a steady stream of content that will confirm the value of their investment in the platform and help retain the audience. Ball emphasized that exclusive projects still remain one of the key factors for the growth and strengthening of any gaming ecosystem's brand.
At the same time, Microsoft for the first time officially clarified what is meant by the term "Xbox console exclusive." Xbox Head of Gaming Content Matt Booty explained that such games will not be released on PlayStation and Nintendo, but will remain available on PC and through the company's cloud services.
