A discussion has erupted around the future of FromSoftware following reports that investors of parent company Kadokawa are pressuring the studio to focus on safer projects and sequels to well-known series. However, FromSoftware President and creator of Elden Ring, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne, Hidetaka Miyazaki, made it clear that he intends to maintain the team's creative independence.
Miyazaki-san stated that he is aware of the information that appeared in the media but cannot discuss the situation in detail as many parties are involved. He emphasized that he is expressing a personal opinion, not the official view of the company.
According to the head of the studio, he is generally satisfied with the current working conditions at FromSoftware. Although there is always room for improvement, developers can still create the games they want without excessive interference from outside. Miyazaki noted that maintaining such an atmosphere is one of the most important tasks for him and the entire team, as it allows the studio to release the projects it is known for.
He also addressed fans, promising that FromSoftware will continue to work on creating truly valuable and high-quality games. The head of the studio urged players to follow both already announced projects and those that remain secret for now.
Although Miyazaki spoke only on his own behalf, many believe that the entire studio shares a similar position. After the success of Elden Ring, the developers did not limit themselves to the proven formula and released Elden Ring Nightreign — a multiplayer roguelike that initially caused skepticism among some of the audience but was eventually warmly received by players.
