Activision has officially confirmed that players will be able to play the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 story campaign earlier than the official game launch. The new shooter will be released on October 23, and its story campaign will be available in offline mode and, according to the developers, will be a return of the series to its roots.
Early access to the campaign starts on October 16, a week before the full release. All users who pre-order the digital version of the Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition on Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to get it. Pre-orders for the Switch 2 version will open later this year.
The events of Modern Warfare 4 will revolve around Private Park, a young South Korean soldier who faces real combat for the first time. A routine operation quickly escalates into a full-scale invasion by North Korea.
The game will also see the return of one of the franchise's most famous characters, Captain Price. He now acts as an outlaw operative driven by a thirst for revenge. In search of a powerful weapon, Price inadvertently sets in motion a chain of events that leads to a conflict on a much larger scale than he could have imagined.
The developers promise large-scale battles, stealth operations, combat using various vehicles, and spectacular cinematic scenes. The campaign will offer a "grounded" approach to combat and diverse gameplay against the backdrop of a war whose consequences will extend far beyond the front lines.
