Authors of Broken Arrow strategy showed "Spectator" mode - for convenient observation of the confrontation between Russia and the USA on the battlefield
The developers heard the community's request and created a full-fledged mode for observing the match.
Steel Balalaika studio presented a new dev diary dedicated to the development of an update for the real-time strategy Broken Arrow. In the June devblog, they talked about working on the Spectator mode — RTS fans have long been asking for it to be added:
Previously, to act as a spectator, players had to either join one of the teams as an AFK participant, or resort to third-party solutions such as match recordings or re-streaming demos. Now, in custom lobbies, the "Waiting List" functionality has been significantly expanded. It retains its original function, but for the lobby host, a new option will appear — assigning a waiting player as a spectator for the upcoming battle.
The spectator player can be assigned to a specific side (Alpha or Bravo) or to a neutral one. The host himself can also become a spectator and even start a battle without taking a place in any of the teams.
In battle, a special overview panel will be available to all spectators. For it, the developers continue to refine two display options: general statistics with a list of all participants and observation with a focus on a specific player.
The spectator will be able to open cards of any units with one click — precisely in the configuration chosen by the player. According to the authors of Broken Arrow, this tool will be very useful for streamers: "just for a detailed analysis of the gameplay and, in particular, the airtab of the teams, because you no longer have to guess the build by the price or wait for the moment when the desired unit appears in battle."
The developers noted that the reconnect (reconnection) option for spectators will be indefinite, with the right to personally refuse to return to the match. Work on the Spectator mode has entered the "final stretch":
The "Skirmish" mode will not be left without attention either, for which we plan to release an adapted version taking into account some specifics in the bots' structure. In general, work on the "Spectator" mode has entered the final stretch, and now the development team is putting the finishing touches on its basic functionality. As for more advanced features, such as observation with a focus on a specific player, they will appear somewhat later.
Last month, the creators of Broken Arrow published several teasers and showed a roadmap. They plan to prepare an add-on that will be dedicated to a new Russian specialization. It will include maps, more new units, a campaign, and other content.
