Gears of War: E-Day creators rejected PS5 version - players didn't believe them
The developers of Gears of War: E-Day commented on rumors about a PS5 version. The Coalition studio stated that the game was never planned for Sony's console, but part of the community didn't believe these words due to the PEGI rating, materials with the PS5 logo, and insider reports.
Gears of War: E-Day became one of the main games at the Xbox Games Showcase. Microsoft confirmed that the project will only be released on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
However, even before the presentation, a PEGI rating for the PS5 version appeared online, some stores added the game to their catalogs, and Microsoft had to remove material with the PlayStation 5 logo. Insider Jeff Grubb also claimed that a PS5 version exists and is already ready.
When asked about a possible change of plans, The Coalition creative director Matt Searcy replied:
We never said the game would be released on PS5.
Brand director Nicole Fawcett added:
That never changed.
Searcy also stated that exclusivity for Xbox makes sense:
I would say that Gears as an exclusive game makes a lot of sense. It's kind of an honor and an exciting feeling to be one of the flagship Xbox games.
When asked about a potentially smaller audience without a PS5 version, Searcy said:
Of course, it's great that more people play our games, but for Xbox and PC, we have what we have.
Art director Aryan Hanbeck added:
We are not too concerned about audience size. We have released games for smaller audiences before, and Xbox already has great shooters.
Players were not convinced by these explanations. The community continues to recall the PEGI rating, PS5 logos in materials, and reports of a ready version for the Sony console. According to some fans, The Coalition and Microsoft are trying to pretend that the topic of a PlayStation version never existed.
