The first-person shooter Luna Abyss was released on PC and consoles on May 21 and received positive reviews from both players and the specialized press. However, the project's success did not help save the development team: just a few weeks after the release, the entire studio staff was laid off.
The layoffs were announced by Kwalee Labs CEO Hollie Emery on her LinkedIn page. According to her, the decision was made for reasons beyond the team's control.
We have been incredibly touched by the support and love Luna Abyss has received from both the gaming industry and journalists and media. Despite numerous challenges, working on this game has been the main achievement of our careers, and we are incredibly proud that the project has finally seen the light of day. Unfortunately, the entire team was laid off yesterday. This decision was completely out of our control. As a result, the entire team is now open to new job offers.
According to the list published by Emery, nine people were laid off, including herself. The head thanked her colleagues for their joint work and posted links to the profiles of all employees who found themselves without a job.
