Lazy Bear Games studio published a new dev diary dedicated to the development of Graveyard Keeper 2. The creators of the "inaccurate cemetery keeper simulator" decided to talk about the City and published several screenshots.
Players in the original Graveyard Keeper couldn't get into it:
You saw the heavily guarded gates and yearned for a coveted pass to the city… but when you were so close, you were met with failure, making you wonder if the City truly existed or if it was just a mirage, a joke, a lie… a sweet lure for other players.
However, in the sequel, the "City" location will indeed exist, but there's a catch — it's almost completely abandoned. Therefore, players will have to save the City: they will need to restore it and lead it into a new era of prosperity.
The developers did not explain what exactly happened to the City — that's a "spoiler," but they did share something:
What we can say is that almost the entire City has been taken over by zombies who were once its inhabitants. Your task is to reclaim the City from them, district by district. However, you will later discover that zombies are not actually the City's biggest problem. With a reliable defense system, people can quite well live alongside them. Moreover, zombies can even become a local tourist attraction. The real problem is much worse: hopelessness… and a shortage of consumer goods.
After the player regains control of the City, they will have to rebuild housing, open eateries, and restore infrastructure. Buildings are not just "decorations"; they will also create new markets for goods and provide access to valuable items and resources.
There will also be a cemetery — players will be able to unlock and place special modules, each providing space for various useful objects such as tombs, benches, columbaria, monuments, and graves.
