Epic unveils EGS Store development plan for the coming year

The Epic Games Store will receive a major update in 2026. Seven years after its launch, the store is being prepared for a massive overhaul with a set of features that competitors have long had.

During Unreal Fest in Chicago on June 18, 2026, the company presented the store's development roadmap.

Priorities include third-party patch notes, Epic parties system with voice chat, improved library and store interface, cross-regional gifting, partial Fortnite installation, pre-registration for F2P games, and store architecture redesign.

Epic also plans a launcher version 2.0 with a complete interface redesign. In the future, user reviews, player profiles, and improved search tools will appear. Developers are promised new APIs, and users will get support for all controllers and enhanced social features.

Despite the updates, the store has long been criticized for lacking basic features. Now the roadmap essentially replicates standard features that have long been available on Steam.

In 2021, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney noted that the store had already lost over $300 million. The company continues to develop the platform, hoping to strengthen its position in the PC market.
