Destiny 3 will not happen. PlayStation did not greenlight it - journalist
The success of the Destiny 2 update did not affect PlayStation's plans. Bungie did not receive approval to develop Destiny 3, and work on a new installment has not begun.
After the release of the final Destiny 2 update, the game showed high online activity and returned to the top of Steam's revenue charts. However, this did not change PlayStation's management's stance on continuing the series.
Forbes journalist Paul Tassi contacted sources at Bungie and directly asked if the success of the update affected the future of the franchise. The answer was one word: "No."
Even after this successful update, I asked my sources: did how well it was received and how many people are playing it change the situation… Destiny has been third in Steam revenue for almost a week… has anything changed? And the only answer I got was: "No."
The journalist notes that the success of the update did not lead to the launch of Destiny 3 development. Creating a new installment would require years of work and hundreds of millions of dollars. It seems PlayStation is not interested in such a project.
