The wave of layoffs in the gaming industry continues, and, according to new reports, Electronic Arts (EA) has already begun another round of layoffs. This was reported by industry analyst Destin Legarie, citing his own sources within the company.

According to him, the first wave of layoffs may be relatively small, but more significant personnel changes are expected in the future. EA employees have already begun to receive layoff notices, and the cuts, it is alleged, will affect several divisions of the company at once.

The layoffs at EA did not come as a big surprise to some employees and analysts. The company is currently in the process of being acquired by a consortium of investors, which includes the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, Affinity Partners, and Silver Lake Partners. The deal, valued at approximately $55 billion, was approved by shareholders back in December and is awaiting final regulatory approval.

Since the deal structure implies a significant debt burden on EA itself, management, observers believe, may seek to improve business efficiency and reduce costs.
