"It's Not a Story About Gender": Faye's Actress Comments on God of War: Laufey

After the announcement of God of War: Laufey, some players criticized the choice of Faye as the main character. Actress Deborah Ann Woll responded to the claims, stating that the story is not about gender and is understandable to anyone.

Speaking at Game Con Canada, actress Deborah Ann Woll commented on the fact that Faye became the first female protagonist in the God of War series.

We need as much diversity as possible in such stories to tell even more stories. All of this is necessary to better understand each other's perspectives and expand our own experiences. If I can help women in the gaming industry even a little, I will be very happy.

However, the actress believes that Faye's gender is not the main theme of the game.

I believe that universality comes from specificity. And there is nothing in Faye's experience that a person of any gender could not relate to. It's a story about a parent. It's a story about regret. It's a story about becoming better than you were before.
These are universal ideas that have nothing to do with gender. We will simply see them through the eyes of this woman. I like the idea that now even more people will be able to see themselves in Faye's story.

Woll also said that she was offered a separate game about Faye back in 2018. According to her, the character was meant to be the central figure of her own project from the very beginning.
