During the June PlayStation State of Play presentation, one of the main announcements was God of War Laufey. Santa Monica Studio showcased impressive gameplay of the new adventure in the God of War universe, but the developers did not reveal the release date or even a release window for the project.
Previously, information had repeatedly appeared online that the game would be released in the first half of 2027. Now, these rumors have been indirectly confirmed by well-known Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, who believes that the release could happen as early as February or March of next year.
According to Schreier, many publishers are now forced to revise their plans due to the release of Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar Games' anticipated blockbuster is capable of overshadowing almost any other release, so companies try to avoid direct competition with it.
The journalist noted that some projects planned for autumn might be postponed, as publishers do not want to compete for audience attention during the GTA VI launch period. As a result, early 2027 risks becoming extremely busy with major releases.
Speaking about God of War Laufey, Schreier stated that he would not be surprised if Sony officially announces the game's release date for February or March 2027 in the near future. In his opinion, this period seems the most likely for the new PlayStation exclusive.
Currently, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio have not commented on the release date rumors.
