The State Duma asked RKN to start slowing down online games by analogy with Telegram
Nina Ostana, Chair of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection and a member of the KPRF party, proposed restricting children's access to virtual space. In her opinion, to achieve this, Roskomnadzor and Mintsifry should utilize all available experience and competencies. As the deputy stated, such measures will help strengthen the protection of minors in the digital environment.
Video products themselves must be controlled. We have special institutions in power in the form of Roskomnadzor and Mintsifry, which successfully cope with slowing down Telegram and other platforms. But we propose to also limit the continuous time a child spends on social networks, within the game itself. If RKN and Mintsifry can handle slowing down Telegram, then why not regulate the child's time within games? Direct all their knowledge and professional experience to protect our children from this virtual space, from social networks. This is a huge danger for our children. Neither Mintsifry nor RKN are currently coping with the tasks that society sets for protecting our children.
Earlier, Ms. Ostana had already proposed limiting the time children spend in virtual worlds. She even prepared a document that provides for several measures: players will be regularly reminded of the time spent in the game, after three hours of continuous play, gameplay may automatically slow down, and after four hours, a mandatory half-hour break will be introduced.
