The prices for Grand Theft Auto VI were recently announced — $80 for the base edition and $100 for the Ultimate edition. Gamers began discussing this pricing policy on social media.
For example, Protopop Games commented:
GTA VI in Canada costs $125 for the standard edition and $160 for the Ultimate edition, including tax. This is $20 more than the average price of an AAA game for the region.
Obbe Vermeij, former technical director at Rockstar North, noticed this post. He responded briefly — so much so that Protopop Games didn't argue with him and agreed:
GTA VI is not an "average AAA game."
Suddenly, a user under the nickname Bruno_Kimmelman joined the discussion, responding to Obbe's remark with a meme featuring actor Sergey Svetlakov saying "Brilliant!":
Discussion participants also noted that Grand Theft Auto VI will only be released digitally — "physical" editions will simply contain a code:
Obbe, many of us want to truly own the game in physical format — without keys, codes, and all that nonsense. Can you release VI on discs, as you did with GTA V back in the day? What do you think about this?
However, the developer has not yet responded to subsequent questions, limiting himself only to a comment on the cost of GTA VI.
