State of Decay 3 Details: Huge World and Reworked Co-op

Details about State of Decay 3 have emerged: a map four times larger than its predecessor, seamless four-player co-op with no distance restrictions, and management of three settlements with 36 residents.

In a new video, blogger Brian Menard discussed the cooperative mechanics of State of Decay 3, showcasing alpha version gameplay.

Undead Labs has removed the player tethering system – now players can move any distance from their teammates. The map is approximately four times larger than the biggest location in State of Decay 2.

Co-op supports seamless player connection and disconnection. Up to four users can share a common world, bases, and survivors, and progress is saved during asynchronous play.

Players will be able to manage three settlements simultaneously. The resident limit has been increased to 36 – 12 for each base. Building, crafting, resource management, and survival mechanics will remain.

Emphasis is also placed on freedom of action, exploration, and loot. The community management system has been expanded: roles, skills, and specializations have been added. Players can play both cooperatively and solo.

State of Decay 3 will be released in 2027 on Xbox, PS5, and PC.
