Xbox head Asha Sharma and content president Matt Booty told Entertainment Weekly that more than a dozen films and TV series based on Xbox game franchises are currently in development. At the same time, the company officially announced a feature film adaptation of Sea of Thieves.

The film is being created in collaboration with Hisako Films – the production company of Destin Daniel Cretton, director of "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" and "Spider-Man: New Day." It is not yet known who will write the script and direct.

According to Matt Booty, adapting Sea of Thieves will be an unusual challenge, as the game does not have one main character – the players themselves and their shared adventures have always been central to it.

"The main character of Sea of Thieves is the player and the community. So the question immediately arises: who is the main character here and what should the story be? But the game has a distinct tone. It is built around cooperation, and that will be the starting point."

In addition to Sea of Thieves, Xbox is currently working on several other game adaptations. These include a Gears of War film for Netflix, a feature film adaptation of Call of Duty, a sequel to "Minecraft in the Cinema," the third season of Fallout, a Wolfenstein series for Amazon, animated series based on Minecraft and Gears of War, a Fallout Shelter reality show, and other projects. In addition, King is exploring the possibility of creating an animated film based on Candy Crush.
