Watch Dogs 2 Online Player Count on PC Steam Increased 20-Fold
The story of Watch Dogs 2 is becoming increasingly relevant.
The traditional Steam Summer Sale recently began. Soon after, the online player count for Watch Dogs 2 started to rapidly increase. In recent days, the peak has exceeded 16 thousand users. The absolute record of 18 thousand players was registered almost 10 years ago.
Ubisoft has not released any patches or add-ons for the game, so the renewed interest in Watch Dogs 2 is not entirely obvious. Some players attribute this to the hype surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI (WD2 also features an open world).
At launch, Watch Dogs 2 was criticized for its narrative style and bright aesthetic (the first installment was darker), but over time, the game was appreciated and has “very positive” reviews on Steam.
Watch Dogs 2 is also capable of attracting players with its story, as it raises relevant topics related to technology and control over people.
The main character, Marcus Holloway, seeks to destroy the ctOS 2.0 system using hacking skills and gadgets: “With Tobii devices, your gaze becomes your secret weapon in the fight against the “Blume” corporation, which is trying to take control of San Francisco.”
Watch Dogs 2 and various editions received a 95% discount on Steam, meaning the base version of the game can be purchased for $2.5, and the Gold Edition with additional content costs only $4. This significantly lowers the barrier to entry for the game.
