The release of the sci-fi horror game Ontos has been postponed to 2027

The game is being developed by the creators of SOMA and the Amnesia series from Frictional Games studio.

Frictional Games studio announced the postponement of their new project, Ontos. The game, previously planned for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, will now only be released in 2027. The exact date is still unknown.

The developers explained the decision by stating that Ontos is the most ambitious and extensive project in the studio's history. According to the creators, the game surpasses previous works in terms of the size of the game world, as well as the depth of the plot, gameplay mechanics, and narrative. To implement all conceived ideas at the proper level, the team required additional time.

At the same time, Frictional Games assured that they would share new details about the game's world and characters in the near future. It is possible that the next trailer or gameplay demonstration will be shown during Gamescom Opening Night Live in August, but there is no official confirmation of this yet.

The events of Ontos unfold on Samsara — a former hotel complex located on the moon. The main character, Aditi, embarks on a quest to find traces of her father. During her journey, she will have to conduct unusual experiments that allow her to go beyond the usual reality, but each such intervention has its consequences.

In addition to exploring the surrounding world, players will have to calibrate various devices, collect resources, and participate in large-scale experiments, which the developers previously compared in scope to battles from Shadow of the Colossus. Frictional Games also emphasizes that many tasks can be solved in different ways, encouraging improvisation, and Ontos itself will not be a horror game in the traditional sense.

Another feature of the project will be the participation of the famous actor Stellan Skarsgård, who starred in Denis Villeneuve's "Dune," "Melancholia," and many other films. His character remains a mystery, as does his connection to the main character, but the developers promise to reveal more information in future updates.
