Last month, Warner Bros. officially confirmed rumors of Anya Taylor-Joy's participation in the upcoming film "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" by releasing a poster with the silhouette of her character — an elf named Serene. Now, the actress has commented for the first time on her involvement in an interview excerpt published on Rotten Tomatoes' social media:
"I feel like I've been an elf my whole life, so it's really nice to finally bring that to the screen. I'm a huge fan of 'The Lord of the Rings' and a huge fan of Andy Serkis. He's a wonderful person and an outstanding, innovative creator. The opportunity to be a part of this world and play this character is a true dream come true."
Serene is a completely new character, not featured in J. R. R. Tolkien's books. She is described as a Sindarin elf of the Woodland Realm and a trusted agent of King Thranduil, who will apparently become an ally of Aragorn in his quest.
The film's plot will unfold between "The Hobbit" and "The Fellowship of the Ring" and will tell the story of the search for Gollum, whom Gandalf and Aragorn are trying to find before he falls into the hands of Sauron's minions and reveals the location of the One Ring.
The return of Middle-earth veterans Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Elijah Wood (Frodo), and Lee Pace (Thranduil) has also been confirmed. In addition to Anya Taylor-Joy, newcomers include Kate Winslet (Marigold), Jamie Dornan (Aragorn / Strider), and Leo Woodall (Halvard).
